How Is a Membership's End Date Determined?
When cancelling a membership, the system uses the Minimum Payments and Cancellation Payments settings in the Membership Product to determine the End Date.
Minimum Payments
This sets the minimum number of payments a member must make. If they cancel before reaching that number, they’ll still be charged until the minimum is met.
Example: If the minimum is 6 payments and the member cancels after 4, they’ll still be charged for 2 more.
Cancellation Payments
This works like a notice period. A set number of payments are still required after cancellation.
Example: If 6 cancellation payments are required, the member will be charged for 6 more after cancelling.
How the End Date Is Chosen
The system looks at both the minimum payments and the cancellation payments, then applies whichever results in a later end date. This ensures the member either completes their commitment or pays through the notice period — whichever is longer.
Example: If the member has made 1 payment, and the settings require 8 minimum payments and 6 cancellation payments, they’ll be charged for 7 more (to reach 8 total).
If No Cancellation Setting Is Applied
If a membership is cancelled after the minimum payments have been met and there’s no cancellation payment setting, the end date will be set to the next scheduled payment date.
For fixed-term memberships
The end date is automatically set based on the payment frequency (e.g. 12 months from purchase).
You can manually adjust the end date. If changed, the system will recalculate the remaining value which may result in a credit due to the customer.
