Linking POS to Tyro Payment Terminal

Create a new payment Terminal 

  • In Backoffice, go to Settings > Location > Payment Terminals
  • Add a new payment terminal and select TyroAPI as the Payment Terminal API

Enable Terminal Printing = On - The payment terminal will prompt to print Merchant and Customer receipts 

Enable Terminal Printing = Off - POS will print the EFTPOS receipts on connected thermal printer with additional options to auto print the customer and merchant receipts. 

Enable Integrated Surcharging = Off – Surcharging is disabled on the Tyro terminal 

Enable Integrated Surcharging = On – Surcharge fees will apply if setup in the Tyro portal

Auto Print Receipts = Enable this setting to automatically print customer receipts after each transaction.

Auto Print Merchant Receipts = Enable this setting to automatically print a merchant copy of the receipt after each transaction, providing a record for the business without requiring manual printing.


Once the above step is completed, you will have a Payment Terminal that is "NOT CONNECTED"

Link the payment terminal to the POS Login 

Update the PAYMENT TERMINAL field to the terminal created in the previous step.

When done correctly, the CONNECTED TO column will display the PAYMENT TERMINAL you have linked.

Pair the Tyro terminal in the POS 

If you have completed the steps above correctly, you will now see a "Settings" icon within the POS. (Note - If the POS terminal login is not connected to a Tyro Payment terminal in the Back office then the Settings menu will not show in the POS)


Navigate to Settings and enter the Supervisor PIN.

Navigate to "Configure Payment Terminal"

Select the appropriate Tyro terminal and follow the instructions to start the pairing process on the terminal.

Enter the Merchant ID and Terminal ID displayed on the Tyro terminal and select Authorize.  

DO NOT select “Test”. The terminal is not yet paired and any test will fail.

If the pairing is successful the POS will immediately display a Pairing Successful message and the Tyro terminal is now integrated and ready to start transacting

Run a test transaction and refund

To ensure that the Tyro terminal is working full please complete a POS transaction using Card Payment method with your Tyro terminal.


Run a Real Test Transaction

  • Add a product in the POS system to the checkout screen.
  • Select Card Payment as the payment method and process the payment using the Tyro terminal.
  • Swipe or insert your card in the Tyro terminal to complete the transaction.


Process a Refund

  • Navigate to Orders in the POS system and locate the real test transaction above.
  • To initiate the refund, click the red arrow icon next to where it says EFTPOS payment.
  • Enter the Tyro terminal passcode when prompted on the payment terminal.
  • The card customer will be required to enter their card PIN to complete the refund process.
